We're talking about at the strip, as you said. People are way too narrowminded and hypocritical. People like you are sheep and follow the crowd with knee-jerk reactions because you were brought up that way. Drag racers (and other forms of racers) use all sorts of devices, tricks and tactics to get their cars faster. Computers that tune the car for them instead of tweaking a carb, line locks that help the launch, tires that you'd never see on the street, special suspension parts that help a launch (or a turn as it were). You name it, people use it. Separating the automatic transmission and "losing respect" for the car/person at the drag strip is completely hypocritical. Again, a knee-jerk reaction by the "cool kids" because you've been brought up that way. My family was dragging their cars before I was born and you bet I was brought up around it. To the outsiders or the posers at the strip, it may not be your cup of tea, it might make you think you wouldn't want to drive it or that it may be less fun on the street/track. But for drag racing, it's there for a reason. Just another piece of equipment that gets you down the strip quick and consistently. If you can't convince yourself that it's just a part on a car with a purpose and a function, that's your issue. If anyone really cares one bit about what you, people watching or anyone else thinks, they are racing for the wrong reasons and need to check their self esteem. I go out there to be fast and have fun and that's why I can put up with all the auto jokes by the ignorant. I don't give two shits about what people think, especially when all they see is tail lights =)
